I liked it so much that I bought another, one for home and one for work. After reading the reviews here, I decided not to purchase them because of breakability issues. Does anyone know if you have to actually return the broken pieces, or do they just take your word for it. I have had them for several months and they are still unbroken even after a few bangs and bumps. There is absolutely no condensation as I've found with other double-walled products and they really do insulate very well - better than a coffee cup with a lid.I am very interested in the stackable glasses, but again, do not want to deal with receiving broken glasses. I didn't want the hassle of returning broken glasses, and I am not the most careful person. Then I saw them at Starbuck's cheaper than I could find them online, and I could purchase just a single mug, so I decided to buy one.
As far as I am concerned this is where the mug reaches perfection after thousands of years of man's technical development. The high user reviews focus on the product itself, and the product is supposed to be the basis of the ratings system at Amazon. double-wall mugs have no size disparities. By mistake, I packed two of these mugs on the bottom of a bunch of gear and drove the Alaska Highway. Why give Bodum bad marks because Amazon's standard packing falls short. I only wish I could give them more than 5 stars. I assumed that this is part the reason for the lack of standardization, until I noticed that the similar Bodum 10 oz. A thin wall is the price one pays for double-wall construction.
A mug is supposed to survive a hard fall. These are the most practical and functional cups on the face of the planet. If you are concerned about shipping damage, buy these locally. They are available elsewhere, including a large chain of coffee shops named after a character in Moby Dick. As far as durability goes: my 8 mugs have survived about two years with one casualty - caused by dropping it three feet onto other kitchenware.
At least Bodum uses boron-silicate glass, among the toughest you can find and the standard for laboratory use. They must be difficult to manufacture. Go figure. I did not mention the store name). One small quibble is that these mugs are of varying sizes, ranging from 14.5 to 16.0 oz. These insulate liquids, hot or cold. (Amazon censors, take note. They are great to use and they make great gifts. The poor user reviews of this product on this site fall into two categories: (1) Amazon did not package the mugs well or (2) I broke them.
No problem. These probably are more fragile than a ceramic mug, but they are durable enough. Why rate the mugs poorly because someone dropped them. They are so effective at this, the mugs do not need a coaster on the most delicate wood surfaces.
I'm not usually one to write reviews (either get too lazy or forget altogether), but I feel like this product is not being given its due.First, when you're reading (and writing) these reviews, remember that the review should be for the PRODUCT, not how Amazon, USPS, or UPS treated the package in transit. size is a plus in that I have to refill less, AND I can easily reach my hand in the cup to hand wash it (I haven't tried the dishwasher yet - haven't really found the need to).My only complaint. While the mugs are a nice size, they may disspaate heat quicker than some of the smaller offerings. After reading these reviews, I fully expected needing to replace something, but I was pleasantly surprised. Now, the mugs.I've had them for about 6 weeks now, and these things are amazing. The handle is nice, wide, and sturdy, resulting in an easy grip of the cup.
Buy with confidence. Because of the double-wall insulation, however, I haven't found heat loss to be a major issue.Overall, wonderful mugs - both beautiful and functional. I've occasionally accidentally hit them against countertops and cabinets, but they're still holding steady. And if you have to deal with Amazon for shipping issues, don't review the PRODUCT and give it a 1. I think these mugs are a lot more durable than some of these reviews may lead you to believe. That said, my mugs came in perfect condition - no cracks, nothing broken.
I'm not sure what people are doing to shatter these things left and right, but then again I've only had these mugs for 6 weeks. There are other websites where you can review the merchant. The design is beautiful, and the floating liquid looks plain neat. The 16oz.
These mugs are fabulous. They are better than the metal double-insulated ones.I've had them for a couple of months now and so far, so good. It is true, these mugs are quite fragile. They keep my latte hot for a long long time. I was glad I read the reviews here before taking a chance and purchasing. I decided if I purchased these I would be extra careful.I am very happy I did.
What's not to love. Hot beverages stay hot longer; the sides of the mug are never too hot to hold; coasters are unnecessary; and they're microwave safe. I've been enjoying this product since Christmas. These cups are wonderful.
